Make | 8×8 Layout – Granville Island

8x8 Scrapbook Layout | Granville Island | Blackbird Darlin

Hey, here is yet another project of mine featuring paper made by a now defunct company! I have got quite a stash of these vintage style papers by Daisy D’s, and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t difficult to make myself cut into this piece. I think it worked out okay though. Phew.

There really should be a word for “cutting into a new piece of patterned paper” anxiety.

Let’s talk about that title for a minute, because it is my favorite part. Oh Quickutz, how I still love thee and this alphabet! I ran the 4×8 die through my Revolution with a piece of cream adhesive backed foam, and I love the soft, smushy dimension it gives to this page. DIY Thickers, that’s what’s up.

What about you guys? Do you still find yourself using die cutters for titles? Can’t see myself ever parting with mine!

Supplies Used: black cardstock (Bazzill), patterned paper (Daisy D’s), “Chandelier” die cut alphabet (Quickutz), “Wandering” label sticker (Pink Paislee), washi tape, black micron pen, cream adhesive backed foam, date stamp

Make | Valentine Card Trio

Valentine Card Trio using Project Life cards | Blackbird Darlin

I had no idea when I ordered my first Project Life kit just how many repeat cards were gonna be in that thing. (Please tell me I’m not the only one that was shocked at the box size) The Kraft edition has tons of pink and lovey themed ones, so I couldn’t help but make a few cards with these…cards!

Card | "Unforgettable Love" | Blackbird DarlinCard | "To-From" | Blackbird Darlin

YES, those are (heart) shaped brads. I mean, how many years have those been sitting in my stash?! We’re not going to even talk about it.

I had to put some polka dot washi tape on there to trend it up, naturally. A Citrus Twist word stamp for the “unforgettable” and a Studio Calico alphabet stamp set for the initials added a little bit extra. The label on the banner card is from the roll of tape I found at the Oh Hello Friend booth at Urban Craft Uprising. No just sitting in the stash not getting used for you, oh noooo!

It should be noted that I totally used the wrong kind of ink for stamping on that tape, but I just went with it.

Card | Hello Love | Blackbird Darlin

Oh hello, love! Even more brad action if you can believe it. AND another label from my tape roll. I trimmed around this one too, since I wanted to keep with the clean look.

Not even sure why I had to mention that since I always want a “clean” look on everything. Alright, now you guys go have some fun with the piles of PL cards I know you’ve got stashed away!

Supplies Used: journaling cards (Becky Higgins Kraft Project Life kit), “unforgettable” stamp (Citrus Twist January PL kit), alphabet stamps (Studio Calico), woodgrain cards (LCI Paper), masking tape (Oh Hello Friend), washi tape, silver brads, silver heart brads

Make | Card – “Hello, My Dear!”

"Hello My Dear" Card | Blackbird Darlin

I rarely ever use black cardstock for a card base, but whoa, look what happened. And then things got crazy with two different border punches (Fiskars Threading Water and Notebook), cameo washi tape from Michaels, black photo corners, and the sentiment is cut from this Antique Chic paper by We R Memory Keepers.

And then I tilted the elements, which is also something I rarely do.

Man, must’ve been all kinds of shenanigans running through my brain during this one.

Make | 12×12 Layout – Photobooth Fun

12x12 Scrapbook Layout | "Photobooth Fun" | Blackbird Darlin

The moment of discovering the woodgrain cardstock over at LCI Paper Company was a game changer for me. I. CAN’T. EVEN. It’s so great you guys, but the buying in bulk thing is the only deterrent. Unless you’re like me and all you want is woodgrain cardstock in bulk for the rest of your scrappy life.

The other things on this layout that are not woodgrain are: Film border washi tape from Michaels! Patterned paper from the 6×6 Echo Park This & That pad! Square picture prints from Persnickety!

Let’s talk about the title letters for a minute though. No, those are not Thickers. I know I’m going to get stoned by 93% of scrapbookers with broken Marvy Uchida punches for saying this, but…

I don’t get the obsession with Thickers.

Why?! Well, probably because I can cut my own by running adhesive-backed foam through my QK Revolution and not have stacks of X’s and Z’s in my stash.

So I guess I actually DO love Thickers, just the DIY version of them. (Please tell me I’m not the only one that does this) The alphabet I used was the 4×8 Chandelier die, and the foam itself is from Michael’s. The nesting circle die is also Quickutz, the big one in white cardstock, and the skinnier one in kraft. Journaling was just a black Micron pen on white cardstock scraps!

By the way, I really love those pictures. What a fun day that was!

Quote | “Decide what to be…”

Lyrics | Head Full Of Doubt | The Avett Brothers

I have this problem with perfection. To the point it actually interferes with what I love most. (Being dorky with paper)

It’s the dumbest thing ever, I mean seriously.

So, I’m changing the way I’ve done these lyric posts in the past…instead of graphic images, I’m going to allow myself to just play with my craft supplies instead, using words I love, and not worry about perfect picture placement, the right sentiment, or just screwing up something.

Making the above 6×6 of The Avett Brothers, “Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise” and getting this photographed and posted has taken me about an hour and half.

Which is kind of amazing for me. BOOYAH GRANDMA.

Supplies: paper from Lawn Fawn, bird washi tape from Pretty Tape, woodgrain cardstock from LCI Paper, photo corners, Dymo Caption Maker, and Quickutz Studio Classic alphabet
