Make | Card – “Hey You!”

Card | Hey You! | Blackbird Darlin

I kept trying to think of something to say about this card, but all I kept writing was about how much it drives me nuts that scrapbook companies keep rounding the corners of all their journaling cards because that’s how Becky’s are, but I’m going to veer a more positive route instead…

Top Tip: Photo corners are a great option for those of you that are crazy like me and prefer your journaling card corners to be sharp.

Supplies Used: pattern paper (Crate Paper Close Knit 6×6 pad), phone chipboard (Maggie Holmes Styleboard Ephemera pack), woodgrain journaling card (American Crafts DIY Shop), sentiment (Citrus Twist February PL Kit), photo corners (Scrapbook Adhesives), washi tape

Make | 8×8 Layout – Like Magic

8x8 Layout | Magic | Blackbird Darlin

I know, I’m the worst. Posting a snow layout when everyone is ready to move on from this past winter and just forget anything related to it. But hey, Seattle doesn’t get a lot of snow, so making this was exciting for me!

Plus, my last four scrapbook projects have all involved eating or liquor, so I don’t want you guys to get a weird impression of me or anything.

I totally broke the wood veneer word while attempting to see if it would run through my Xyron “X,” so for anyone wondering, that’s not a very good idea. Thankfully, it fit back together so well that you can’t even tell. My photo is 5×5, so I used a 6×6 patterned paper to mat it with, and then added a little pearl detail and date stamp to fill the blank space in a bit. A washi tape strip down the side, and a scrap of white cardstock at the bottom for journaling, and I called it done.

By the way, the background paper is a hella old piece from Carolee’s Creations, so using that was also exciting. Magical, even!

Supplies Used: blue pattern paper (Carolee’s Creations), photo frame pattern paper (American Crafts DIY Shop 6×6 pad), wood veneer (Citrus Twist January PL Kit), pearl dots (Michael’s), gold pen (Uniball Gel Impact), gold stripe washi tape, date stamp

Make | Card – “Hello”

Card | Hello | Blackbird Darlin

This card was inspired a bit by city life, in that poster-glued-to-a-graffitied-wall kind of way. My favorite postered wall in town got destroyed a few months ago, and it made me kinda sad. This is a slightly prettier version of course, thanks to that CRAZY BRIGHT colored paper. And love-birds.

The 3×4 card mounted in the middle is actually composed of three elements – the 3×4 card from this paper, the “Hello” image cut out from a sheet out of the Dear Lizzy Daydreamer 6×6 pad, and a strip of washi tape. I inked around the sentiment to dirty it up a bit. Oh! And pop dots! I’m all over that in my cards lately.

Are any of you ever inspired by your surroundings? I’m always snapping phone pics of the random things I see when I’m out walking!

Make | 6×8 Pocket Page – Night Out

6x8 Project Life | Blackbird Darlin

I know I’ve mentioned a couple times how I want to add pocket style page protectors in with my regular layouts (those aren’t going anywhere, trust me), but not actually showing anything here on the blog.

I know, it’s really simple, right? It’s also not a spread. (WAT)

Okay, let me explain…I actually kept trying to embellish this page, but I finally just gave up and left it much like the way it started out. Maybe in time I’ll get the pocket embellishing thing down, but I like keeping things simple and graphic, so it probably won’t change too drastically from this.

So why isn’t this a spread? Because I’ve decided I’m not going to worry about that! If I have a random photo that I want to do in this style, I am going to do it and either add another random photo to the back side, OR just leave the back with some pretty paper and call it good. I’ve resisted trying this style for awhile because I know the traditional weekly/monthly format of Project Life just wouldn’t work for the way I scrapbook.

At some point, I’ll dive deeper into my process on here, but it’s still pretty new for me…already a bit addicted though. Yay for variety!

Make | Card – “In Case You Didn’t Know…”

Card | In Case You Didn't Know | Blackbird Darlin

Two of my very favorite things in the world are 1) polka dots and 2) bright green. When I grabbed this die cut from my stash, I already knew instantly what paper I was going to back it with. So much more fun when that happens instead of the “Dagnabbit nothing matches this, WHY IS ALL MY PAPER UGLY RIGHT NOW” type of crafting days.

Please tell me I’m not the only one that has those moments with my craft materials.

Anyway, the rest is made up of a strip of washi tape from my club kit from last month, and I stuck a few red brads in the corners cause it looked like it needed red brads in the corner. Aw yeah girl, let’s put some pop dots on there for some added dimension while we’re at it!

In case you didn’t know, I loved making this card.
