Make | 8×8 Layout – Happy Heart

8x8 Layout | Happy Heart | Blackbird Darlin

Originally for this layout, I was going to have the border lined with several record stickers and die-cuts…I didn’t have enough though, so I clustered what I did have in one spot and ended up liking that way better. (HOORAY!)

The photo is printed from my Selphy, and I had a “yesssss” moment when I discovered that pink chipboard frame perfectly fit over the photo. Everything else about the page evolved from that one element.

The ticket background paper is so, so, pretty and has “hoard me forever!” written all over it, but I refused to let the paper voices win on this one. Love, love, love.

Supplies Used: patterned paper (Heidi Swapp), chipboard frame (Crate Paper Open Road frames), vellum title (Maggie Holmes Open Book Vellum ephemera), enamel hearts (We R Memory Keepers Little One enamel shapes), diecuts/sticker (Crate Paper)

Make | 8×8 Layout – Road Trip to CA

8x8 Scrapbook Layout | Road Trip | Blackbird Darlin

This was the first photo I took on our California trip, so I liked the idea of making it be its own layout. Sets the scene and all that. I have a lot of photos from this trip, so most of them will end up in pocket pages…though the arrangement of them is driving me to BLEEERRGG right now.

The title placement bugged me at first (okay, fine, it still does), but I really wanted the geotag to sit above LA, so I decided to just get over it and stick it all down…stickers always feel so intimidating and permanent to me.

On another note, I love the Open Road collection.

Make | 8×8 Layout – Left My Heart

8x8 Scrapbook Layout | I Have Left My Heart... | Blackbird Darlin

I love this photo, so I knew I wanted this one to be featured on a page of its own. It sat for months though, until I hit upon this 4×6 journaling card from a Becky Higgins mini Project Life kit. I lived in that town for seven years (and the Herald building is pretty iconic there), so it was the perfect sentiment for this shot!

Of course, the card was corner rounded (BLERG!), so I fixed that little problem with a couple of kraft photo corners. I also trimmed the bottom of the card to fit the brick patterned paper, and added a little strip of kraft cardstock to separate the two pieces a bit. I painted the wood veneer hearts with a light brush of white acrylic paint because they got a little lost on the brown patterned paper, and I really wanted to include them somewhere…embracing embellishments, that’s been my MO this year!

Make | 8×8 Layout – Ice Cream

8x8 Layout | Ice Cream | Blackbird Darlin

That polka dot paper has been sitting in my stash for about a hundred thousand years now…always an exciting moment when something old finally gets its day in the sun.

Except no, not really, because the sun would fade it and then I would be sad.

This is the first 8×8 layout I’ve done with three photos…THREE! The journaling spot is from a stack of 2.5×3″ index cards that I found in the office supply section of a local drugstore. They just scream for scrapbook page journaling; I’m not even sure what someone in an office would use it for. The brown frame was looking a little drab, so I added a scallop border to the top to dress it up a bit.

The problem with looking at this layout is that it always makes me want to eat ice cream. Ohhhh the smell that comes out of this place! Do you guys have any good ice cream shops where you live? It’s such a great thing about Spring and Summer isn’t it?

Supplies Used: patterned paper (SEI maybe?), word stickers (Studio Calico Printshop stickers), frame (Crate Paper The Pier chipboard frames), phrase/date stamp (Studio Calico Classic roller stamp), scallop border (Fiskars Threading Water punch), doily

Make | 8×8 Layout – I Love You

8x8 Layout | I Love You | Blackbird Darlin

I never know what I’m going to see while doing something as mundane as getting groceries, which is why having my iPhone on me is so handy sometimes. This photo is one of those random things…there and gone in a matter of days.

I love the urban feel of this Studio Calico brush script paper; it felt more in place with this photo than my usual woodgrain or polka dots. :) I’m definitely getting better at using my embellishments lately, I think this is my first real attempt at an embellishment cluster. (YAY!)

Do you ever have any photos that inspire you to get out of your usual routine? Or is it tried and true all the way every time? I get bored if I don’t break out of my box every now and then!
