Make | 8×8 Layout – Love

8x8 Layout | Love | Blackbird Darlin

I don’t care what anybody says, I love Valentine’s Day.

Nine times out of ten for me, absolutely nothing happens. Hell, I’m not even that romantic of a person. I just dig on the fact that everything in the stores is pink and pretty for a few weeks, and there’s encouragement to exchange pretty paper things amongst loved ones.

My real fondness though comes from the subject of the above layout. I’ve been away from home for fourteen years, but my dad will sometimes still surprise me with goodies for V-day. How can you not love that?!

Make | 8×8 Layout – Let’s Be Still

8x8 Scrapbook Layout | "Let's Be Still" | Blackbird Darlin

I finally jumped on the monthly scrapbook kit bandwagon, and I am looooooving it! Almost everything on this layout was done with the November “Good Stuff” Citrus Twist PL kit, my first one ever, and the ones I’ve received after that are also pretty rad.

I love texture on my pages, but I’m a pretty flat scrapbooker…adding those wood chips to the page was a definite jump out of my comfort zone. They’re JUST flat enough though, that I might be doing this more often!

YAY for happy, pretty things in the mail. And pretty new records worth scrapbooking about. ;)

Make | 8×8 Layout – King St. Station

8x8 Scrapbook Layout | King St. Station | Blackbird Darlin

Okay kids, here we go with some more 8×8 action! So much easier for me than doing 12×12 these days. I’m usually only taking one or two pics of something at a time now, so all that space was getting overwhelming.

I raided more of my stash for this one – that 8×8 brown polka dot paper is a KI Memories piece from forever ago, and the cream and black cardstock was dug out from my scraps folder. The little date flags are from the Clippings sticker sheet from Basic Grey, title is done with the Studio Skinni Mini Quickutz alphabet (one of my all-time favs!) And finally, the 1.5×4 piece of clock patterned paper is cut from the “Labeled” Good Life collection sheet by Fancy Pants.

I’ve only been Instagramming for six months now (ehhh, I’m a bit slow on upgrading my technology), but it’s definitely pulled me back into taking random snapshots again. I’m sure most people are fine with just letting their Instagram be what it is, but I can’t resist having them printed in physical form, surrounded by pretty things. Any of the rest of you noticed this in your own crafting?

Make | 8×8 Layout – Brunch at Oddfellow’s

8x8 Scrapbook Layout | "Brunch at Oddfellow's" | Blackbird Darlin

I hit a paper crafty slump recently. While reflecting on why this was happening, I suddenly became obsessed with the idea of completely switching to a different size format.

(I should side note that I’ve been scrapbooking my pages in the 12×12 format since 1995, y’all)

I experimented a bit with the 6×8 Simple Stories pocket pages, and while I can’t wait to try that format for a themed album, it just wasn’t quite working out for my regular stuff. I LOVE what people are doing with the Project Life style, but it just doesn’t feel gratifying for me. (This might be due in part to my life mostly consisting of brunch and Simpsons marathons) Plus, I found the 6×8 size was just a little too…rectangular.

Once a square, always a square, I guess.

Okay, anyway, so what I’m getting at is that I tried an 8×8 format and holy crap…holy. freaking. crap. Did it ever do the trick. A little awkward at first, but my brain switched ON, and I’ve been on fire lately with this smaller format. It helps that I’m using smaller sized pictures, of course…I always wanted to cut down my 4×6’s back in the day, but there are so many options with sizes now that the transition is a pretty easy one.

What about you guys? Have you ever switched formats and had it work out better for you? I would LOVE to see what others are doing in this size!

Supplies Used: Cardstock – Bazzill (aqua), Michael’s (kraft and white), patterned paper by SEI (old!) vellum tag by Making Memories (even older!), kraft photo corners by Scrapbook Adhesives, Doily Lace border punch by Martha Stewart, date stamp, rhinestone, Over photo app (what I used for the text on my photo), 4×4 Instagram print by Persnickety Prints
