Make | 8×8 Layout – Left My Heart

8x8 Scrapbook Layout | I Have Left My Heart... | Blackbird Darlin

I love this photo, so I knew I wanted this one to be featured on a page of its own. It sat for months though, until I hit upon this 4×6 journaling card from a Becky Higgins mini Project Life kit. I lived in that town for seven years (and the Herald building is pretty iconic there), so it was the perfect sentiment for this shot!

Of course, the card was corner rounded (BLERG!), so I fixed that little problem with a couple of kraft photo corners. I also trimmed the bottom of the card to fit the brick patterned paper, and added a little strip of kraft cardstock to separate the two pieces a bit. I painted the wood veneer hearts with a light brush of white acrylic paint because they got a little lost on the brown patterned paper, and I really wanted to include them somewhere…embracing embellishments, that’s been my MO this year!

Supplies Used: brown patterned paper (stash – old American Crafts), white brick paper (Crate Paper Open Road 6×6 pad), title (Becky Higgins Project Life Travel cards), journaling spot (Crate Paper Open Road ephemera), wood hearts (Citrus Twist Kits), date stamp

Make | 6×8 Project Life – May (pt. 2)

6x8 Project Life | May 2014 | Blackbird Darlin

I’ve been in a bit of an internet lurch and hiatus since Two Peas shut down. Those message boards were a regular part of my internet life for fourteen years.

14 YEARS. That is a long-ass time, you guys.

I’m discovering new scrappy places to lurk about on the internet now though, and I’m also hitting a groove with working with pockets – after having May and June stuff sit for weeks, I sat down the other day and just started blasting through it. (YAY!) This is more of a “pretty” spread than a photo filled one, but I looove it. And I know it drives some people crazy, but I actually like the look of one page being split up. For June though, I’ve switched to full 6×8 for larger magazine pics, and might stick with that for awhile.

Did any of you feel a bit lost too after Two Peas shut down? For me, it’s definitely something worthy of putting in my June Project Life!

Supplies Used: flower chipboard (Maggie Holmes Styleboard chipboard), floral and heart patterned paper (Crate Paper Close Knit 6×6 pad), stripe patterned paper (Glitz Finnley 6×6 pad), cork arrow (American Crafts DIY Shop arrows), roller stamp (October Afternoon Inspiration stamp), washi, alpha letter stamps

Make | Card – “You Spin Me Around”

Card | You Spin Me Around | Blackbird Darlin

If you look closely, you might notice something a bit unusual for me on this card. SPRAY MIST. Yes, I am digging into the messier side of scrapbooking, but in a very subtle, not-really-that-messy way.

Totally in control, just the way I like it.

I’ve been using bits and pieces from this Basic Grey sticker sheet for forever now…I’m not sure if it will ever get used up, but I’m sure trying! I mounted the record and heart on some pop dots to keep things from being too flat and boring. (I thought about trying to make it actually spin, but that got a little too involved for my type of crafting) A couple of cuts into a scrap of the woodgrain paper turned it into a banner…voila!

Card | You Spin Me Around | Blackbird Darlin

Supplies Used: music and woodgrain patterned paper (American Crafts DIY Shop 6×6 pad), record sticker (Basic Grey Clippings sticker sheet), gold heart (Maggie Holmes Styleboard chipboard die cuts), spray mist (Heidi Swapp Gold Color Shine), gold brad

Make | 8×8 Layout – I Love You

8x8 Layout | I Love You | Blackbird Darlin

I never know what I’m going to see while doing something as mundane as getting groceries, which is why having my iPhone on me is so handy sometimes. This photo is one of those random things…there and gone in a matter of days.

I love the urban feel of this Studio Calico brush script paper; it felt more in place with this photo than my usual woodgrain or polka dots. :) I’m definitely getting better at using my embellishments lately, I think this is my first real attempt at an embellishment cluster. (YAY!)

Do you ever have any photos that inspire you to get out of your usual routine? Or is it tried and true all the way every time? I get bored if I don’t break out of my box every now and then!

Supplies Used: patterned paper (Studio Calico Printshop 6×6 pad), paper labels and heart wood veneer (Citrus Twist Kits), cork arrow (American Crafts), date stamp

Make | Card – “Hello”

Card | Hello | Blackbird Darlin

This card was inspired a bit by city life, in that poster-glued-to-a-graffitied-wall kind of way. My favorite postered wall in town got destroyed a few months ago, and it made me kinda sad. This is a slightly prettier version of course, thanks to that CRAZY BRIGHT colored paper. And love-birds.

The 3×4 card mounted in the middle is actually composed of three elements – the 3×4 card from this paper, the “Hello” image cut out from a sheet out of the Dear Lizzy Daydreamer 6×6 pad, and a strip of washi tape. I inked around the sentiment to dirty it up a bit. Oh! And pop dots! I’m all over that in my cards lately.

Are any of you ever inspired by your surroundings? I’m always snapping phone pics of the random things I see when I’m out walking!

Card | Hello | Blackbird Darlin

Supplies Used: patterned paper (Studio Calico Printshop 6×6 pad), 3×4 card (Webster’s Pages Dear Diary sheet), “Hello” sentiment (Dear Lizzy Daydreamer 6×6 pad), pop dots, washi tape, black ink
